Sake Journey’s Itinerary

October 31, 2014

Arrive in Tokyo and Experience a Welcome Dinner at a sake izakaya. Guest will arrive in Tokyo on a flight of their choice on this day or earlier. We’ll meet at our upscale Tokyo Hotel, located near Tokyo Station, and as a kick off to our Sake Journey, we will head to a secret, hidden izakaya to experience true micro brewed Japanese sake!

November 1, 2014

Travel to Hakkaisan Sake Brewery On the first full day on our tour, we will travel by shinkansen to visit one of the most famous Breweries in Japan: Hakkaisan Sake Brewery. After a tour of the sake brewery, we’ll lunch at Hakkaisan’s delicious Soba Restarurant and tour their beautiful and brand new sake snow storage facility. In the evening we’ll dine at a private dinner with the Executives of Hakkaisan, enjoying rare sakes not for sale to the general public. Later, we’ll relax in the evening at the beautiful and charming Hakkaisan Guest House.

Nov 2nd, 2014

Hakkaisan Tour and travel to Ishikawa. The second full day on our Journey has us starting our morning with a traditional kurabito breakfast at Hakkaisan Brewery. After breakfast, guests can join a cooking class or go snow shoeing in the snowy countryside. We’ll meet up for lunch at Hakkaisan’s new udon restaurant. Next, we’ll travel by train to Ishikawa Prefecture. Upon arriving in Ishikawa, guests will enjoy a relaxing night at Yataya Shotoen – a reknowned onsen in the Kaga region of Ishikawa.

Tour Two Breweries in Kanazawa, Ishikawa We’ll start the day touring Kanazawa’s Yoshida brewery, makers of the delicious Tedorigawa brand of sake. After a Brewery tour and tasting we’ll enjoy the best fish Kanazawa has to offer at our magnificent lunch. Our afternoon stop in Kanazawa will be the Shata Brewery, brewers of the famous Tengumai sake. We’ll tour the brewery and do a tasting before joining the staff for a gourmet Kanazawa dinner at a renowned local restaurant.

November 4, 2014

Our next stop is a relaxing trip to Japan’s ancient capital of Kyoto. In this magnificent city, we will start with a free day to explore Kyoto. On this day, you are free to roam far and wide and explore Kyoto at your leisure. Visit the Temple of the Golden Pavilion, or stroll the gorgeous Gion district. This is your day for relaxing and shopping and taking in all the splendors of Kyoto.

Our Second day in Kyoto will start with a tour of Tsukinokatsura Brewery. This brewery was founded in 1675 and we’ll be viewing the facilities and tasting the Tsukinokatsura sakes with the 14th Generation president Tokubee Masuda. After our brewery tour, we’ll dine on a feast with Masuda-san and explore the culinary wonders of Kyoto.

November 6, 2014

Travel from Kyoto to Tokyo and the Joy of Sake Festival We’ll travel by bullet train from Kyoto to Tokyo and spend our final night together at the internationally renowned Joy of Sake Festival in Tokyo. This spectacular evening showcases approximately 380 sakes submitted to the 2014 U.S. National Sake Appraisal, presenting them alongside sake appetizers prepared by specialty Tokyo restaurants. You’ll taste a wide variety of sakes and rub elbows with some of the premier sake makers of Japan. It’s a wonderful way to cap off our tour!

Enjoy a final relaxing morning in Tokyo. Breakfast is included at our hotel. You can travel more within Japan or elsewhere, or head back home. Either way, you’ll have wonderful memories of your Sake Journey!
